SLOW STEAMING

Slow steaming could be adopted for cutting down fuel consumption and carbon emission. This is a very effective method to reduce operating cost as reducing the speed of the vessel will theoretically have a cubic effect in fuel savings (PαV32/3). The decision to go for slow steaming will also depends on the Freight rate, bunker price and other operational costs as well. In general, slow steaming is a simple and effective method to reduce fuel costs and carbon emissions. Slow steaming does not need a modification to the engine as such, but will require a set of operational and maintenance procedures in place to ensure safe operation, and counter the adverse effects of engine not operating in its design rpm range.
